Retention

# Retention, priced: see where repeat customers are won and lost

August 7, 2026

## Overview

Repeat rate is one of the most important numbers a brand has, and
one of the easiest to shrug at. A percentage on its own doesn't tell
you whether improving it is worth a new email flow, a better
post-purchase offer, or a quarter of your team's attention.

So we built the Retention report to put a price on it. It shows your
store's repeat rate alongside what one more point of repeat rate
would be worth in revenue over a year, so you can size the
opportunity yourself and decide how hard to chase it.

## Where repeat customers are won and lost

### Follow new customers from their first product

The flow chart starts with the product a new customer bought first, then shows what they did next: bought it again, moved on to other products, or didn't come back.

### The customers who left are always in view

The group that didn't come back is always shown, never tucked away. It's usually the biggest opportunity on the page, so we keep it front and center.

### Switch the starting product in one click

Pick any product from the side list to redraw the flow from there. Say you sell a starter kit and a single hero product: you might find that customers who started on the kit went on to try more of the range.

### Group size beside every rate

Every rate comes with the number of customers behind it, so a striking rate from a handful of buyers doesn't get mistaken for a pattern.

## Nothing to set up

The Retention report builds itself from your store's orders. Connect
Shopify and it's there, with no tagging, no segments to define and
no spreadsheet to maintain. If you want to go deeper on how each
starting product's customers spend over time, pair it with
[cohorts by first product](/blog/cohorts-by-first-product).

## Available now

The Retention report is available on **every Ordinary plan,
including Free**.
